A GOOD BOOK TO READ: ATLAS SHRUGGED BOOK REVIEW
There are moments when you can't stop reading. There will be moments when you really really want to skip or stop reading the book (But plow through it you'd be glad you did). This good book to read is a heavy read though at 1188 pages written in "functional language" that is more concerned with communicating an idea than being artsy Which you'll either like or hate. This is probably because English is not Ayn Rand's first language.
As a philosophical book it's perfect. As a novel, it drags a bit in some parts. I think that there are unnecessary details in the characters' life. I suspect that this is necessary in order to paint a clear picture of the philosophy that Ayn Rand is exposing. I don't know if it's just me or perhaps I associated with the characters too much that I sense that when the characters in Atlas Shrugged talk, they all sound the same. Like one person talking to himself. You can divide the characters into two: the irrational ones (antagonists) and the rational ones (protagonists).
ATLAS SHRUGGED, WHAT TO EXPECT?
The good thing is after reading this book you'll come out of those 1188 pages with a renewed view of life. You'll come out with a clearer mind and a brand new approach in tackling complex subjects such as politics, philosophy, beliefs, virtues, values, individual freedoms, individuality and economy. This is probably why it's long, it's an all-encompassing work that would otherwise be hard to condense in fewer pages. I think that Atlas Shrugged and the views that it exposes would not be as effective if written in a shorter thesis paper-like fashion.
I mentioned this as bad, but I'm theorizing that the low points in the book are necessary for the exposition of Ayn Rand's ideas. You really see the mundaneness of life, especially those considered to be the upper crust of society.
